Living as an expat

It has been a year since I moved here in Brno. And I can still remember the first day when I finally arrived here.

But before telling my story, you might wonder, where is Brno?

Brno is located in Czech Republic and it is the second largest city in the country. It is not a very touristy place like Prague. But  I can say that it is a business area where IT hubs are mostly located.

Some say that Brno is very quiet and there’s nothing much to do but for me it is a calm and peaceful place where you can think freely and enjoy life as it should be.

Anyways, it as February when I first arrived here. The sun was out for the first time. The winter is almost over and overcast days are coming to an end. Everybody is out and they are full of joy. Well, so am I. After years of waiting, I have finally arrived.

Living here is such a great blessing from God. Compare to my life before, I feel like I am having a vacation everyday. And every minute of my life is a time well spent.

It might seem like an exaggerated statement but its not. I work as an IT specialist in Asia. There, I work for 12 hours a day. And then I travel to work for 3 hours because of traffic and the free time that I have is just enough for a few hours of sleep.

But when I arrive here, my company promotes a work-life balance. I only work 8 hours a day. The work load is not too much so I don’t have to think about it when I get home. The travel time from home to the office is just 30 mins. There are no traffic. The place is so quiet so you have time to meditate. There are no skyscrapers so you can see a 180 degrees view of the sky. Trees, flowers, fresh air, singing birds are everywhere. And you have enough time to just enjoy life.

Sometimes it is hard for me to believe that this place exists but I am very happy that is does. And I thank God so much for being so gracious and He gave me this opportunity to live here.
